About us

The purpose of ROMANIAN FILM SECTOR is the elimination of the gap between national talent and the Romanian film industry; RFS was created as an NGO especially for producers, screenwriters and film directors and strives to be a national and international provider of support and service facilitator.

In order to achieve its mission, our NGO has the following objectives:

  1. Professional training that gives the producers, screenwriters and directors the ability to successfully complete documentary and feature film projects that are feasible for the actual international context;
  2. Setting up a platform of communication and collaboration between industry and the film creators;
  3. Facilitating the development of feature and documentary film projects and of companies involved in production as well as establishing the professional status of the film industry.
  4. Securing the connection between film creators and their audience by presenting their works in projected presentations, creating awards and representing their projects in international festivals and film markets;
  5. Active presence in the private sector by identifying the creative potential and facilitating the communication between creators and private investors;
  6. Collaboration with the National Center of Cinematography and other similar profile public institutions in order to offer understanding and support for the needs and individual growth of film creators in Romania as well as providing support for the communication between public cultural institutions and film creators.
  7. Offering preparation and support for international film festivals and other international film-related organizations.
  8. Follow-up, counseling and consultancy for partners, film creators and media.

President

The President of RFS, Catalin Leescu is an award-winning film director with extensive commercial and personal film track records.

His credits include both fiction and documentary projects, national and international, and has had works commissioned by the Romanian Government and TVR1.

He is a freelance filmmaker granted by the National Centre of Cinematography and has initiated or participated in several national film projects. He is an associate of Carter Films, an independent company that has produced several international fiction and documentary features in the last 10 years.

Vice-president

The Vice-president of RFS, Dan Eugen Cadaru, has been the expert of the Centre of National Cinematography in its relation with MEDIA. Skilfully coordinating complex international projects, his activity had a direct influence in developing the professional expertise of the Romanian Audio-visual sector.

He was a counsellor for the Minister responsible with the European aquis for the audio-visual sector, and took care of the harmonisation of the Romanian and European legislations.

Eugen is also an associate professor at the Media University in Bucharest, and is currently involved in studying for his PhD in Film Studies.

Secretary

The Secretary of RFS, Elena-Diana Butoeru is one of the most solicited lawyers in the Romanian film industry, for whom she provides legal consultancy services in the legal areas of commercial, intellectual property, civil and labor law.

Her experience has gained her wide acclaim as an expert in intellectual property rights and its related areas.

In her last eight years of practice, she has had as past or present clients some of the most active young Romanian filmmakers. She has a Master's Degree with a specialisation in Business Law.

Vice-president

Adrian L.Moldovan, member of RFS, is a producer working in cinematography and advertising for more than 12 years. During his activity he developed and produced all type of projects, from TVC's to docudrama, feature films, photography or music videos.

In all these years, he constantly strived to find the best solutions for every issue, so he always says: there are no problems, only opportunities for the best results.
